Welcome to Fern & Briar! Our Raymond, WA, farm and wedding venue is located in the southwest corner of the state, on land that has been in the family for over four generations. We raise our pigs, goats, and chickens on grassy pastures and use rotational grazing in order to provide our animals the healthiest, happiest lives possible. Rotational grazing not only provides the freshest nutrients to our animals, but it also helps improve the soil and grass over the long term, reduce carbon emissions, and prevent erosion! In addition to grazing and browsing, our animals receive a modest amount of supplemental non-GMO grains that are sourced locally.

Our produce is grown using strictly natural methods. While we are not certified organic, we do not apply any pesticides or other chemicals, and only add natural fertilizers if the soil requires amendment. At Fern & Briar, we strive to create a harmonious, balanced environment that attracts and nurtures pollinators of all varieties.

We take pride in growing and raising all of our plants and animals naturally and humanely, and we believe that shows in the quality and taste of our products. We feel confident you’ll agree!

Our Goats

We raise goats that are a mixture of the Kiko and Boer goat breeds. Both Kiko and Boer goats came into the United States in the mid-90’s from New Zealand and are valued for their meat. They love to forage and will happily browse on the endless supply of blackberry briars found in the area. Never tried goat meat before? Goat meat is described as savory and less sweet than beef, but slightly sweeter than lamb. It can be prepared in a variety of ways, just as you would with any other ground or cut meat (for example: grilled, barbequed, baked, fried, made into sausage, etc.). Still not sure? Give it a try with our sampler pack, or attend a farm event where we offer tasters!

If you would like to purchase your own goat, please reach out now to get on our list. We have kids available at least once every spring at our Raymond, WA farm.

Our Pigs

At Fern & Briar, we raise registered Idaho Pasture Pigs (IPP). This breed is fairly new, with breeding stock first being offered in 2012. IPPs were developed from the breeds of Old Berkshire, Duroc and Kunekune and the result is a pig that is gentle and good-natured, cold-hardy, and has excellent mothering skills. IPPs do not engage in much rooting and have a diet that comes primarily from grazing on grass. Because of this grass-based diet, IPP pork is redder in color, well-marbled, and a sweeter flavor than other breeds.

Contact us if you would like to get on our list for a half or a whole pig, or would like to reserve a “feeder” pig to raise on your own farm.

Our Poultry

We raise Cornish X broiler chickens on fresh pasture, with no hormones or other additives. They are processed right here at our Raymond, WA, farm and are currently offered twice a year. Contact us to reserve yours today!

We also have laying hens. Our happy hens lay chocolate, brown, green, and blue-colored eggs. Our fluffy princesses are free-range on pasture and we feed them plenty of tasty treats and non-GMO grains that are soy and corn free. If you’re interested in purchasing any of our delicious farm-fresh eggs, send us an email and ask about availability – they’re a steal at $5/dozen!
